WEIRD NEWS: Ref Outranks Cop in Texas Football

Referees at a high school football game in Texas tossed a penalty flag at a local cop who walked on the field mid-game to question them about one of their calls.

Liberty County Constable L.W. DeSpain came in from the sidelines after a controversial play ignited a skirmish between the two teams – and netted one player an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. DeSpain thought that punishment wasn't severe enough, and wanted the lineman ejected from the game, so he decided to do more than just boo the official from the sideline, running onto the field and holding up the game.

The ref blew his whistle a second time, and called a penalty on DeSpain – or, actually, on the team he was supporting in his argument. The official says he also plans to file a formal complaint about the constable's behavior. (KHOU)
