During this reporting period, our stations hosted 14 interns in our Production, Promotions, Sales and Web/Online Departments as follows:
Summer 2011: Eleven interns in our Production (3), Promotions (7) and Sales Departments (1) from West Virginia University (2), Penn State University (4), Slippery Rock University (1), University of Tennessee (1), Miami of Ohio (1), Clarion University (1), Duquesne University (1).
Fall 2011: One intern in our Production Department from the University of Pittsburgh.
Spring 2012: One intern in our Production Department from Pittsburgh Technical Institute and another intern in our Web/Online Department from LaRoche College.
Promotions interns developed skills in promotion events as well as putting together station events from setup to wrap up. They assisted air talent with promotional giveaways, remote equipment and signage at events. They learn to update station prizes and attend to prizewinners. The interns are supervised by our Promotions Director.
Production interns learn our Nexgen/Prophet/ProTools systems, the control board as well as simple board-oping responsibilities. They are also introduced to voice mechanics and voice on-air commercials and learn basic commercial editing. In some cases, the interns produce sample/first run spec spots for clients. The interns are supervised by production staff, our Creative Services Director and on-air talent at times.
Sales interns assist account executives, sales managers and sales assistants, conduct marketing research on clients and decision makers, attend internal sales meeting and shadow account executives on client meetings. The interns are supervised by our sales managers.
Web/Online interns work ongraphic design projects, execute setup and tear down of video equipment, assist in web posting on station websites of copy and captioning of photos, edit video and coduct basic HTML coding. The interns are supervised by our Director of Internet/Web.

Host event/program sponsored by or on behalf of a community organization relating to careers in broadcasting
As part of the Consortium for Public Education Student Leadership Conference, “Voices of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow,” our SEU served as a Career Exploration Site and hosted 18 students from surrounding counties for a shadow of our station departments on April 28, 2011. We provided the regions’ youth with resources/tools to go into the media and entertainment industry and gave them an inside look to our organization.
