Owing to what Micky Dolenz calls "the euphoria" over the dozen shows they gave last fall, the surviving members of The Monkees will re-unite again this summer.
Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith have announced 24 shows over five weeks spanning mid-July to mid-August. The first date is July 15th at the Capitol Theater in the New York suburb of Port Chester -- the same venue where The Rascals' reunion began last December.
Dolenz tells Rolling Stone that Nesmith's songs were always kept in the setlist during the decades he kept his distance from his onetime TV co-stars. "But when he sings the leads, it brings a whole different feel and dynamic to the band... The two of us had such a nice blend on those early records. It was two-part harmonies like The Everly Brothers."
Don't expect these shows to pay tribute to Davy Jones -- who died 14 months ago -- the way the 2012 mini-tour did. Micky explains, "I think we have to move on. Everybody has to move on. He'll always be remembered and acknowledged, but possibly not as much as on that particular tour. We will, of course, still perform 'Daydream Believer' and all the other hits."
