A concert marking the 40th anniversary of Jim Croce's death is set for his hometown, Philadelphia on September 21st. The folk-rock duo of Terry Cashman and Tommy West -- who were Jim's producers -- will perform, as will a number of other friends and colleagues from the city's '60s folk music community.
Broadcaster Gene Shay, the founder and original emcee of The Philadelphia Folk Festival, will host.
Though unable to attend, Croce's son AJ supports the event, which will be held at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. He says in a statement, “I am very touched that you are celebrating my father's music. I know that my father would also be very touched that you still listen to his music and support it, and that it means so much.”
A graduate of Upper Darby High School who was the classic "struggling musician" for years before his 1972 breakthrough with "You Don't Mess Around with Jim," Croce died in a plane crash on September 20th, 1973, near the end of a lengthy concert tour.
