PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists the McKees Rocks Bridge (Route 3104 between Route 65 to Route 51) in the Borough of McKees Rocks and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will be closed to traffic in both directions this weekend, Nov. 21-23.

The full closure will begin at midnight on Friday and continue around-the-clock through 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23. Motorists will be detoured using the West End Bridge. Crews will be conducting concrete repairs, sawing and sealing joints and dams, replacing strip seals, caulking barrier, repairing barrier and roadway spalls, removing temporary barrier, and painting.

The bridge will fully reopen without restrictions on Monday morning. Some short-term, single lane closures may still occur on the bridge daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for minor work needed to complete the overall project, which will conclude in mid-December.

Motorists should use caution, allow extra time and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.

The McKees Rocks Bridge carries Route 3104 over the Ohio River and railroad tracks between Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) and Route 51 (Island Avenue). The $6.8 million project to improve the bridge includes: concrete deck, parapet, and expansion dam repairs; sidewalk replacement; pavement markings; zone painting, and other miscellaneous construction.

Pittsburgh – PennDOT Engineering District 11 is advising motorists intermittent, single-lane closures in both directions on Route 28 (Allegheny Valley Expressway) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin on Monday, Nov. 16.

Crews will be installing posts for traffic cameras and other ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) components. Single lane closures may occur between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Nov. 30 on Route 28 between Chestnut Street in the City of Pittsburgh and Evergreen Road (Route 4009) in the Borough of Millvale. Lane closures will be coordinated to minimize impacts on the traveling public during the a.m. and p.m. rush hours.

The $2.1 million project includes ITS components on Route 28 plus improvements on other roadways in Lawrenceville that may be used as alternate routes during the larger East Ohio Street widening project. Some on these improvements include widening for a turning lane, curb cut ramps and sidewalks, upgrading traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, and other construction at the intersections of 40th and Butler streets; Butler Street and Penn Avenue; and Liberty Avenue and Ligonier Street. Power Contracting is the prime contractor. The project will be completed in June 2010.
